Will your Bacs payment submissions be affected by internet security changes?

On 13 June 2016, Bacs will be changing to a new and more sophisticated level of internet security, known as SHA-2, which is being adopted by the wider internet community.

What are the changes?

Organisations using Bacs to collect and make payments need to make sure they can accommodate these changes as failure to do so could result in being unable to access Bacs’ services.

At the same time, Bacs will withdraw support for older connection protocols to provide even more even more protection for the communications pipeline between the internet-based service access points, BacstelIP and the Payment Services Website, and the service user. After 13 June 2016, only TLS 1.1 and 1.2 will be supported.

What does this mean for your business?

If you do not have a web browser or operating system that supports these changes it will not be possible to access Bacs via Bacstel-IP or the Payment Services Website after 13 June 2016.

What do you need to do?

You will need to check with your IT provider that your web browser or operating system will support these changes.

Remember - if you need to upgrade your web browser and/or operating system, you may also need to update all your supporting software including Spindle Professional, Spindle Document Capture and Credit Hound to make sure they will run with your new systems.
